Why We Exist...
The Challenge

The HEART is your connection.

The HEART is your connection to see what Collegiate Evangelism is all about here at the North American Mission Board. We are here to connect you to students who need Christ with resources, tools, strategies, information, and stories. The HEART is really what is important to Christ and His heart and that is to “seek and save” those who don’t know Him.

The Collegiate Climate
The college campus is a mission field consumed with students who desperately need the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. There are over 16+ million students in North America that are seeking their life’s dreams. They are deeply spiritual but not necessarily seeking Christ. They are open to others’ convictions but they desire to be heard as well. Relationships will always be the key to unlocking their heart’s door for Christ to come in.

Here are some quotes/statistics from the Go! And On Mission magazines.
  • 70% of the world leaders are educated in colleges in the United States, but 90% of those future world leaders will never have someone engage them in a conversation about Jesus Christ or invite them to attend an evangelical Christian church.

  • The United States is the third largest unchurched nation in the world. Only China and India are larger.

  • North America is the only continent where Christianity is not growing.

  • Seven out of 10 people in North America do not know Christ.

  • The United States is now the 13th largest receptor of Christian missionaries in the world.

  • Muslim countries are spending billions of dollars each year to evangelize North America.

We Exist To...
The VISION of Collegiate Evangelism of the North American Mission Board is to motivate, equip and resource churches and campus ministries in giving every person on every college and university campus in North America every opportunity to accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, baptized and assimilated into a local church through effective evangelism strategies.

The Challenge
Why we must reach this people group and assimilate them into local churches?
1. This generation, because of its size, personality and influence, is poised to have a huge impact on church and society.
2. The potential leadership and ministry of college students remains largely under-developed and untapped by the church.
3. This generation is self-reliant, adventurous and activist.
4. They have influence.
5. They are the most resourceful, intellectual, and creative generation in the past fifty years.
6. They are wanted by their families and society-they have become a generational public property.
7. They are ambitious-they feel a natural sense of empowerment. They are not looking for permission to serve.
8. They are questing spiritually.
9. They are team players.
10. They are willing to take huge risks.
11. They are heroic.
12. They will …

> Provide a focal point for the renewal of the American family.
> Provide a focal point for the renewal of America’s civic culture.
> Grow up to be sociable and team-oriented.
> Build a reputation for meeting and beating adult expectations.
> Be the most effective tool that the church has to evangelize other students.
> Use their personal testimony to communicate to one another verbally and electronically.
> Connect with other generations. (the church is one of the last truly intergenerational institutions of society.)
> Challenge our outmoded print language and jungle of jargon.
> Increase adult conversions.
> Be open to and seek the advice of trusted elders.
> Seek spiritual values.
